Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
A program recently launched by the CMS is being expanded due to its success. The program is designed to help individuals deemed prediabetic avoid the disease through fitness education, coaching and lifestyle intervention. The program began in 2013, operates in 8 states currently, and generates an estimated savings of over $2,600 per participant.
Affordable Care Act Marketplace
The CMS recently released a study that contradicts a common belief that out of pocket costs and deductibles are too high for plans in the Affordable Care Act exchange. The report found that only 17% of people have deductibles higher than $5,000 annually, and that the median is $850, which is $50 lower than 2015.
The craze caused by the game Pokemon Go has extended into healthcare, with some people making meme’s featuring the ICD-10 codes for injuries due to the game. Click here to check those out and have a laugh! The CMS has also released updates for fiscal year 2017, see them here and here.
Electronic Health Records
Another 90-day extension to the electronic health record reporting deadline has been granted by the CMS. The move allows hospitals and health systems to continue to make progress in adopting technology. In an effort to offer even more flexibility, the CMS also proposed removing clinical decision support and computerized provider order entry.
