Do you know how many thousands of codes are possible through ICD-10?
Answer: you don’t need to know and you shouldn’t care.
We are almost two months out from the implementation deadline, and the reality of the situation is that you need to focus on the diagnosis codes and claims processing items that most affect you.
It’s easy to get lost in the weeds of ICD-10. But it’s time to pull back and ask yourself these questions to focus on the important top-level codes and processes:
- What are the codes for the top 10 conditions you see?
- What are the top codes that account for most of your revenue?
- Look at a recent medical record. Is there enough documentation to select the correct ICD-10 code?
The CMS ICD-10 page contains a great round-up of free resources, including a quick-start guide, “The Road to 10” online resource for small practices, and more.
To further help with your transition, Quill Healthcare is hosting a webinar on Aug. 25 about “ICD-10 and Clinical Documentation Improvement.” Our presenter, Melanie Endicott of AHIMA, is a true coding expert — there is no one better to address this topic than her. And bonus: the webinar is approved for CEU credit through the key accrediting organizations.
